Margaret wanted to turn her home into a residential care home right in 1986. She always wanted to care for the elderly, and sought out as much information as she could on the subject. She began her training by attending a 1-year course on ‘Care Of The Elderly’, at Wilmorton College (1986-1987). She then completed a 2-year social service course (C.S.S) at Mickleover College. In addition to this, she has also received a certificate for food hygiene, and went on to complete a training course and obtain a certificate for the intermediate food hygiene.
Through all these years, she has attended many day courses to learn all aspects of caring. Since January 1990, she has worked at every position in the home; as a Care Assistant, Senior Care Assistant, Domestic, Cook, Deputy Manager and Manager. This has allowed her to understand the true nature of this job, and the level of hard work and effort that this requires. In November 2005, she completed an NVQ4 Care and Management training course at Wilmorton College.
We have 34 members of staff who support us in all aspects of care. They consist of 4 management staff, 7 senior carers, 12 carers, 5 domestics, 4 kitchen staff and 1 administrator, most of whom are NVQ trained. We also have a person who is responsible for all the maintenance in our care home.
